Basic Trust is central to our lives. Without it, we can’t even relax. In our spiritual work, we can’t go beyond our familiar sense of ourselves – and spiritual truth is unimaginably beyond anything familiar. This trust – in something we don’t even know – is an expression of part of our nature, a sense that there is something that holds us in a loving embrace, a sense that reality is benevolent .
Our first contact with it was in our earliest lives, in the ways we were held and supported – and not – both by our immediate family and the wider environment. Even today, these earliest experiences both invite us to discover Reality, and limit the ways we are free in our discoveries.
This weekend, we’ll be exploring many layers of this holding, in our history and in our lives today, and its relationship to knowing Reality more fully.
