Letting go of the familiar is hard for most people, whether it’s a habit, relationship, belief or a way we know ourselves. The familiar might be painful, yet we tend to hold on. We often don’t trust letting go into the unknown. And yet our lives keep changing, reality is full of transitions from the known to the unknown, and in spiritual work, we’re always stepping into the unknown!

To align with this movement requires trust. Our usual sense of trust is highly conditional – “I’ll trust if I’m assured of a particular outcome.” But this doesn’t help us enter the unknown, where we cannot know the outcome.

In contrast, Basic Trust is an implicit knowing of the goodness of reality and confidence that things will work out for the best, even though we don’t know how that will look. This allows us to be at ease with ourselves and our circumstances, trusting our natural unfoldment.  Basic Trust is inherent to our Being. But when we don’t know this, we often live in a fearful and defensive way.
