What have you learned as a result of studying the Diamond Approach?:

That my essential nature is not some idea about what I am, but Being itself. Perhaps most importantly, I have discovered that I don't need to reach any particular end, and am more interested in the endless unfolding of what I can know, feel and be in the world.

What attracted you to the Diamond Approach?:

I learned about the work from a colleague and mentor of mine who had been participating in the Diamond Approach for a few years. I was looking for a community to explore “spiritual work.” I had studied philosophy and psychology in college, had tried different teachings and approaches to inner exploration, and nothing had really felt like a right fit. My colleague knew about my interests, suggested the book Essence with the Elixir of Enlightenment by A. H. Almaas to me, and mentioned an upcoming weekend retreat I could attend. I got the book and really enjoyed it. So, I went to the weekend retreat.

Going to that first weekend retreat, I wasn't sure what I would find there. I recall that my first thought was that there was nothing flashy or fancy about the setup. The teacher presented the teaching and it felt straightforward, and at the same time felt like it came from some kind of depth and truth that I knew, or could at least relate to. I felt challenged without being overwhelmed. It felt like the right place for me to discover more about my inner nature.

Over time, it's the inclusion of any aspect of our life expereince that has continually attracted me to this teaching and path. No stone goes unturned or unexplored. There's a spirit of open, loving, curiosity about human experience, and an understanding that we all want to live lives as much freedom as is possible for us, and to support others to do the same.

What is most important for people to understand about the Diamond Approach?:

The Diamond Approach is like going to university for your consciousness. And by conscoiusness, that means all of you - your mind; your heart; and your sensing, embodied life. You are becoming a student in a school. And the curriculum here is profoundly interactive and engaging. You won't be sitting back and just letting things happen. From the beginning, you are asked to check things out for yourself, work on your own and work with others, and inquire into your own experience. In a real sense, you are continuing the journey of growing as a person that began when you were born. There may be sudden, quantum leaps of understanding. And there is also the gradual, meaningful work of integrating your discoveries into your life.
